The Sacred Woman
Al-Mar’a Al-Muqaddasa” (المرأة المقدسة) literally means “the sacred woman” or “the sanctified woman.” Depending on the context, the expression can have several meanings: Religious or spiritual meaning: A woman considered holy, blessed, or particularly virtuous within a religious or spiritual framework. Symbolic meaning: A woman placed on a pedestal, perceived as morally perfect, pure, and almost flawless. Psychological meaning (in the context of the Madonna–Whore complex): A woman who is excessively idealized, to the point where she is no longer seen as an ordinary human being with desires, flaws, and contradictions. She becomes a symbol of purity or perfection rather than a complete person. In this psychological context, “the sacred woman” does not mean she is truly sacred, but rather that she is perceived as such by the person who idealizes her. Possible translations include: The Idealized Woman The Pure Woman The Woman on a Pedestal The Madonna (term used in Western psychology) It represents the opposite of a view that reduces a woman to a mere object of desire. In both extremes, the woman is not seen in her full human complexity.
